Cross Florida Okeechobee Waterway

Okeechobee Waterway or Cross-Florida Waterway is 1sahatchee River.

This man-made waterway was built in 1937 to provide a water-route across Florida. The Waterway allows boats to pass east–west across the state rather than take the long route around the southern end of the state. The shallow waterway is used by small commercial and leisure craft.

There are five locks on the waterway named St. Lucie Lock, Port Mayaca Lock, Moore Haven Lock, Ortona Lock and W.P. Franklin Lock. With plentiful marinas, boat ramps and fuel docks along the way, bridge information needs to be ascertained by navigators. There are many closed RR bridges and fixed bridges too.

Many cruisers access the waterway shortening trips to west coast of Florida. Fishing and camping are popular activities on the Lake. Largemouth bass, blue gill, Okeechobee catfish and black crappie are species of fish that abound here. Birds, beautiful scenery and the water all combine to make the waterway an outdoor water-lover's paradise.
